1. Research Responsive Fund:

The Research Responsive Fund supports cardiovascular researchers in Wales to develop promising ideas and generate the evidence needed for larger funding applications.Designed to pump-prime innovative research, the fund can support a range of activities, including proof-of-concept studies, pilot data generation, interdisciplinary collaboration-building, and the purchase of small items of equipment.The scheme is open to researchers at all career stages, with early career researchers particularly encouraged to apply. Applications are welcomed from researchers based in higher education, NHS, and social care organisations across Wales.Funding available: Up to £7,500 for projects lasting up to 6 months.Deadline: 24 September 2026, 5pm.

2. Secure Data Access Catalytic Fund:

The Secure Data Access Catalytic Fund helps cardiovascular researchers access secure, linked datasets to advance innovative research and generate preliminary findings.Designed to remove barriers to data access and strengthen future funding applications, the scheme can support a range of activities, including access costs for Trusted Research Environments and biobanks, staff time for data-enabled research, and analytical support through the National Cardiovascular Research Network.The fund is open to researchers at any career stage based in Welsh higher education institutions, NHS organisations, or social care settings. Collaborative applications are encouraged, particularly those involving early career researchers.Funding available: A total of £15,000 is available, anticipated to support 2-3 projects. Projects should not exceed 12 months.Deadline: 24 September 2026, 5pm

3. AURORA:

AURORA (Addressing Underrepresentation through Outreach and Research Access) is a funding programme supporting community-led activities that make heart health and research more inclusive and accessible.We fund innovative projects that raise awareness of heart and circulatory health, build understanding of research and encourage participation from communities often underrepresented in healthcare.Projects can be whatever you feel is most beneficial to your community. This may include workshops and events, digital outreach campaigns, or educational sessions.By supporting trusted local organisations, AURORA aims to reduce barriers and ensure more diverse voices shape the future of cardiovascular research.Funding available: Up to £2,000 per project.Deadline: This is an ongoing scheme with no deadline.
